Dev. D

Dev. D

Son of a rich industrialist who is sent away to London when he was 12, Dev returns to his hometown and to Paro, his childhood sweetheart. Though they seem inseparable, a momentary rush of blood putstheir lives in a tizzy. Paro is married off to someone else and Dev goes into severe depression. Not one to take on responsibilities for his acts, Dev digs deep into drugs and alcohol for salvation. He stays away from home but his finances still come from a doting father. An escapist instinct and a massive ego leads him into an aimless search for lost love that pushes him further into an abyss of darkness and hopelessness soaked in self pity.

Mahi Gill as Paro

Dev’s neighbour and childhood friend Paro is a free spirit riding high on the life with nothing but an indestructible faith in her Dev. That faith is shattered in a major turn of events, and she is resigned to marry an older man with children. Paro picks up the threads of her life and moves on with a lot of grit and dignity and she hopes Dev can do the same.

Kalki Koechlin as Chanda

Leni likes to live her life on the edge – a rich student with hyperactive hormones and a penchant for adventure. After a devastating MMS scandal she is abandoned by her family and forced into isolation. As a runaway she finds shelter with Chunni, a pimp. With great determination and inner strength she adopts an alter ego – Chanda. As Chanda she gets to be a high profile escort by night while Leni remains a college student by day. With Coke in her head and money at her disposal, Chanda/Leni lives life on her own terms – no holds barred.

Taking the basic plot from Sarat Chandra’s ‘Devdas’, Kashyap gives the story a new spin.

Dev, Paro and Chanda of ‘Dev D’ reflect the sensibilities, conflicts, aggression, independence, free thought, exuberance and recklessness of the youth of today. A generation that is jammed between Eastern roots and Western fads.

‘Dev D’ is set in the rustic and colourful Punjab and also explores the dingy, morbid, dark underbelly of Delhi. From sprawling mustard fields to a riot of neon, it’s been written and directed by Anurag Kashyap and produced by UTV Spotboy.

Ghajini

Ghajini
How do you go about avenging someone you don’t remember? Ghajini is one such tale of love and vengeance of a man who suffers from memory loss.

The movie, starring Aamir Khan , Asin and Jiah Khan , is inspired from director Christopher Nolan’s film ‘Memento’. Director A.R. Murugadoss first made the Tamil adaptation of the film Ghajini (Tamil) in 2005. Interestingly, Murugadoss hadn’t seen ‘Memento’ but only heard its story when he made the Tamil flick. Therefore, don’t expect a rip-off of ‘Memento’ in ‘Ghajini’.

Synopsis:

Imagine being one of the most successful businessmen in the country. Sanjay Singhania (Aamir) is a rich businessman who owns a cellular phone company. Kalpana (Asin) is a model who brags to her friends and peers that she is the love interest of Sanjay, though in truth she doesn’t even know the man.

When Sanjay comes to know about this anonymous admirer of his, he decides to dispel her delusions. But on his way he sees a beautiful woman helping the handicapped kids cross the road. Instantly, Sanjay falls for her. Later, he comes to know that she is Kalpana, the same model who boasted of being his girlfriend.

Sanjay gets introduced to Kalpana but doesn’t disclose his real identity. Love blossoms between the two.

While on a train ride, Kalpana saves a group of young girls from a rowdy bunch of eve-teasing goons. A few days later, the same group of eve teasers, led by their notorious head (Pradeep Rawat) close in on Kalpana. But Sanjay arrives and fights them. In the ensuing scuffle, Kalpana is killed and Sanjay is hit on his head with an iron rod.

Though Sanjay is able to survive the injury, he loses his memory. He gets only flashbacks of what really happened and his short memory makes it difficult to remember things he did just minutes back.

How does this man, who can’t even remember the killers of his ladylove, goes about taking his revenge is what the remaining story is about. Jiah Khan plays a medical student who helps Sanjay find the killers.

The movie has music by A R Rahman and lyrics by Prasoon Joshi .

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

There is an extraordinary love story in every ordinary jodi! And one such ordinary jodi is that of Surinder Sahni and Taani in ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’.
The movie, a love story, is directed by Aditya Chopra who is returning to direction after eight years since Mohabbatein .
Shahrukh Khan , who has worked in the two previous flicks Aditya Chopra has directed (including Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge ), once again plays the lead role.
The female lead is played by a newcomer named Anushka Sharma .

Synopsis:

Have you ever stopped to think if the most ordinary, uninteresting, unobtrusive man you might see on the road or around you might have a love story to tell?
Maybe not! How can an ordinary man have a breathtaking, ‘goose flesh-igniting’, awe inspiring love story of all things to tell?
But guess what - love does not differentiate between the ordinary and exceptional, the uninteresting and interesting, the unattractive and attractive. Because love knows no distinction.
Love can happen to anyone and once it does it engulfs us into it completely and gives us those miraculous experiences that only love can yield.
This is what happened to Surinder Sahni (Shahrukh Khan), a simple, clean-hearted, honest man working for Punjab Power.
Surinder is leading a humdrum life when he meets his total opposite and finds love in the flamboyant, fun-loving and vivacious Taani (Anushka).
For Taani the whole world is her canvas and she paints her own life with colors of rainbow.
But then, unforeseen circumstances change it all. They separate them and bring them together.
What follows is a journey filled with laughter, tears, joy, pain, music, dance and a lot of love.
‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ tells a story that makes us believe that there is an extraordinary love story in every ordinary jodi!
The movie has both SRK and Anushka in two different get-ups. The first one is an ordinary look in which SRK wears loose pants and shirts and has his hair oiled and combed to one side. Second is a dude look with spikey hair and clean-shaven face.
SRK says the two different characters he plays in the movie are inspired from real people who participated in his show ‘Kya Aap Panchvi Pass Se Tez Hai’.
In fact, according to grapevine, in the second half of the movie, SRK turns from a boring guy to a handsome dude who participates with Anushka in a dance competition and wins her love.
Anushka, too, has two makeovers in the film. She dresses up traditionally in salwar-kameez for one part of the film. In another part, she dons designer dresses.
The music of ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ is given by Salim-Sulaiman. The lyrics are by Jaideep Sahni.
